Tiger Team: tt-mirna

Machine learning in miRNA-target prediction

A working group of the Medical Research Center uses machine learning software for miRNA-target prediction. The size of the problems requires HPC resources, but the working group had little experience with HPC clusters. Within the scope of this Tiger-Team a member of the group was supported in getting access and using the bwForCluster MLS&WISO in several personal meetings. The applied software was investigated in respect of parallelization options and dependencies. To meet the requirements of the software an optimized version of ViennaRNA was installed on the cluster as a software module. Furthermore support for the creation and optimization of job scripts for different parts of the application workflow was given. In the end the user managed to complete and run the full workflow autonomously. The workflow was documented by the user and the acquired HPC knowledge will be spread among the group members.
